5.0 out of 5 stars A Rich Story From A Complex WomanJuly 1, 2017
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book Anchorwoman by Jessica Savitch contains some riveting information on her early life and series of jobs that she held while working towards making a name for herself as a journalist (such as with modeling and voice over work). Savitch explained that she wanted to set the record straight to help explain what is was like for her to be among the first wave of female pioneers to pave the way for other females to more freely break into the journalism industry. She is also candid with her life as Savitch also shares a major heartbreak on losing a man she loved unexpectedly. It is tragic that she experienced such a loss only a short time after also experiencing a miscarriage. However, the death that she described was shocking to me as she was his second marriage and was going to be a stepmother to his children from a previous marriage and it would appear from his career that he had that he would not have died the way he did. Yes, I understand that how the way he died can affect people of all socio-economic classes. What I am getting at, even though his side of the story is unknown, is that the shock Savitch expressed on being surprised by her 2nd husband’s death is understandable because he had a lot to live for from the way Savitch explained his life and how they came together (career life, family life etc.). Savitch’s memoir is worth it to get because the reader gets to experience her career accomplishments vicariously directly from her point of view. However, I do find it eerie that Jessica Savitch’s book Anchorwoman was published in October 1982 and she unexpectedly died in October 1983(via Wikipedia and an Adweek online source)(the book copy that I ordered from Amazon lists the edition of this book to have a printing history of G.P Putnam in October 1982 and Berkley Edition November 1983). I told my husband about Savitch’s death as I completely understand why he is an open minded skeptic and even he found it a little eerie how her death was so close-timeline wise- to when her memoir was published. Last, but not least, I am wondering if the pivotal moment when Savitch grew her career determination actually stemmed from both losing her father unexpectedly at a young age and after her mother resumed a career as a nurse. Jessica Savitch admits on page 16 that her parents met in the U.S. Navy when her dad worked as a pharmacist’s mate and her mother worked as a navy nurse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Set of Songs To Enjoy and Listen To For A Playlist I Have PlannedJuly 1, 2017
This Amazon music playlist of 100 Greatest 2000s Alternative Songs gives me gleeful nostalgia as I first heard a multiple number of these songs during upbeat and good times in my early 20s and both through local tv and radio while living in California, Florida, and Virginia through the navy. My husband and I both have eclectic tastes in music, and he also has enjoyed some of the music on this list before (I have noticed him singing along to Greenday before and the Black Parade song by My Chemical Romance). There is something for many people on this music playlist who enjoy 2000s rock as there are a wide variety of rock songs on this collection. Some of the multiple songs available that I would recommend listening to in order to get a sense if you might enjoy this 100 Greatest 2000s Alternative Songs; Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, The Pretender by the Foo Fighters,Believe by the Bravery, Bohemian Like You by The Dandy Warhols, Wake Me Up When September Ends by Greenday, Float On by Modest Mouse,Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes,Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Starlight by Muse, The Scientist by Coldplay, Drive by Incubus, Feel Good by the Gorillaz, yellow by Coldplay, Amber by 311, You’re Gonna Go Far Kid by the Offspring,The Middle by Jimmy Eat World, Beautiful Day by U2, All the Small Things by Blink 182, Use Somebody by Kings of Leon, and more. 5.0 out of 5 stars Gives HopeJuly 1, 2017
First I must share this disclaimer that I am posting this review as an amateur/ambitious reviewer who has a strong passion for writing and has a supportive husband who is encouraging of my writing interests through both good times and challenging times. With that out of the way, I purchased this kindlebook of Making Therapy Work;A Client’s Guide to Healing and Growing in Therapy by Michael Elliott for help in talking to a licensed professional for open-minded advice in relation to one of my goals in growing my self-confidence as it relates to my career and money goals. Helpful information is given for multiple ways to stay active outside of therapy, how the therapeutic relationship makes therapy work, therapy is challenging work but rewarding and more. I feel very blessed that Amazon introduced me to this kindlebook in a very timely manner/at the right time even though I have received therapy before when I was making at least over 2100 dollars after taxes here in the Washington D.C. area. This kindlebook reminds me to at least search out and call resources that I find-within 24 to 96 hours or less as it is a 4th of July weekend- on where to find free andor low cost in person therapy if you are referring just yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable DocumentaryJuly 1, 2017

It is actually personal how I unexpectedly came across this engaging and informative documentary that is The Best Government Money Can Buy. I prefer to stay neutral in regards to this documentary because I intend to eventually take online college classes by September 2018 and/or sooner that are related to some of what is covered in this documentary, which is partially why I consider it a lucky synchronistic chance that I unexpectedly came across this documentary on Amazon. This documentary also informed me that many of the lobbyists have to walk a fine line between their personal political beliefs and making connections/relationships from both sides of the political aisles in their employment/business dealings. A sampler of the informative details that are included in this documentary that is The Best Government Money Can Buy; 300 New Lobbyists recruited in 2009, K street lobbying spending in 2009 $3.47 billion, U.S. Members Raised 700 million U.S. dollars in 3 years (79% Came from outside their district, with 57% coming from outside their state), Sallie Mae one of the nation’s largest student loan lenders spent more than $3.5 billion lobbying in 2009, U.S. Chamber of Commerce was listed in the documentary to be one of the biggest lobbying spenders in 2009 at a money figure of $144 million, Capitol Hill Club, Rayburn House Office Building, and a listed detail that in 2009 6.7 billion dollars spent on lobbying and the 14000 registered lobbyists allow for 26 lobbyists each to do business with each congressman. I also like that some of the men and women interviewed for this documentary admitted and shared a little on why they have to wisely and carefully reconcile their political beliefs with that of some of the clients that they might want to do business with who may have different points of political views. An honest angle was also shared on why and how even some of the most well meaning politicians can end up having to frequently get involved in lobbying in addition to their work as politicians for their districts as it relates to their re-election goals. There was also a listing of multiple names and jobs listed in this documentary of the Best Government Money Can Buy written and directed by Francis Megahy such as: Dept White House Chief of Staff, Department Secretary of Defense, Director Domestic Policy Council, Sec Agriculture, White House Director Inter Govt Affairs, Department Secretary of State, White House Political Affairs Director, Jeffrey Birnbaum Lobbying Columnist Washington Post, Daniel Newman Ceo Maplight.org, Arthur Bryant Chief Executive Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, Meredith McGehee Policy Director The Campaign Legal Center, David Certner Chief Legal Council Aarp,Patrick O’ Donnell Principal Squire Sanders Public Advocacy LLC, James Thurber Director Center For Congressional and Presidential Studies American University, Professor Stephen Wayne Georgetown University Department of Government, Stephen Pfister Senior VP Government Relations National Retail Federation, Aaron Huston Director Government & Relations, Catherine Bennett Senior VP National Foreign Trade Council, Nick Calio Senior Vice President Global Government Affairs Citigroup, Elizabeth Vella Moeller Attorney Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw, Toby Moffett Former Congressman Senior Counselor the Livingston Group LLC, Chief of Staff House Majority Leader Terry Lierman, John Jonas Attorney Patton Boggs LlP,Larry Sabato Professor Center for Politics UVA, Jan Baran Attorney Wiley Rein LlP, Joan Clay Brook President Public Citizen, Michael Mcleod Bell Chief Legislative Policy Counsel ACLU, Bruce Josten Executive VP Government Affairs U.S. Chamber of Commerce, John Pappas President Power Players Alliance, Matthew Keelen The Keelen Group, Thomas E. 5.0 out of 5 stars Why I Plan To Get This In Kindlebook FormJuly 1, 2017
I am fully aware of the fact that I am outside the intended audience for this book that is titled Eisenhower The White House Years by Jim Newton, yet I am glad to have spotted this book at my local public library. I am a prior navy veteran who was previously stationed on the aircraft carrier the USS Eisenhower from part of 2008 until part of 2009. Naturally, part of the reason why this book jumped out at me when I was browsing for books is because I figured that I might as well get some information to help me understand the name of that aircraft carrier that was named after Eisenhower. Some of the multiple events covered in this book Eisenhower The White House Years by Jim Newton; the career trajectory that took Eisenhower from a job in Columbia University to go to a job post that would form the basis of NATO on orders from President Truman (page 53),an important event that took place at 7:57 p.m. on Tuesday December 2, 1952 when the Constellation plane took Eisenhower to an airfield near Seoul (page 83),the controversial situation involving McCarthy and his affiliation with government investigations pertaining to communism(page 136),a military situation that involved the CIA, involved $843,000 and involved the use of an aircraft carrier ship, two destroyer ships, and a heavy cruiser from the U.S. Navy(page 277),Eisenhower meeting with incoming president J.F.K on January 19 (page 347), and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting FilmJuly 1, 2017

This review is from: Despicable Me 3 (Amazon Video)
My husband wanted to see the Despicable Me 3 film and I agreed with seeing the film as we were fortunate to have also seen the previous two Despicable Me and Minions films together when they were released in theaters (even around a couple of weeks ago we re-watched the minions film when his mother came to visit us). Anyhow, the film Despicable Me 3 film features the character of Gru (Steve Carrell) and his now wife Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wigg) being forced to start over professionally after a job involving former child star and now villain Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) goes differently than planned. Naturally, Gru and Lucy Wilde have to find a way to break the news to their children Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Nev Scharrell). Gru also meets his long lost twin brother Dru and goes to his mother Marlena Gru (Julie Andrews) to find out why he was not informed about a twin brother sooner. There is also a wide range of songs featured in this film from Pharrell Williams, Madonna, Michael Jackson, other 80s songs such as the 99 Luftballoons song, and more. I am glad that my husband treated me to this film as it also helps me to broaden my understanding as a writer how films andor stories for children are created(I intend to write stories for children and another set of stories for adult audiences). However, this film is obviously uplifting to watch for various ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very EmpoweringJuly 1, 2017
This audible version of The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein is a very supportive tone of book. Bernstein shares her story, mentions some techniques to use, and encouraging affirmations. It was also helpful to me that she shares how to turn into challenges into greater fuel for creative possibilities/creative opportunities. These are also some of the reasons why I also want to eventually get the Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein in Amazon kindle form.
