When You Thought You’re Over Someone, December 23, 2015 This review is from: It's Complicated (DVD) It’s Complicated is a film that stars Meryl Streep as a Santa Barbara,California woman named Jane Adler who owns a thriving bakery business and has a strong relationship with her three children. She seems to be doing fine in her life but her emotional world is turned upside down when her former husband Jake Adler (Alec Baldwin) lets her know that he really never quite got over her. Complicating matters, is that Jake Adler is actually now married to Agness Adler (Lake Bell)who also has her own successful business (I think it was a successful marketing business)and one child . One of the other problems with this scenario is that Agness is trying desperately to have more children with Jake Adler unaware of what is going on. You then have architect Adam Schaffer (Steve Martin) who has a strong emotional and romantic connection with Jane, but is initially unaware of the complex dynamics between her and Jake (hence the It’s Complicated title).  Comment | Permalink

At first, part of the movie is spent showing how the two men are still trying their best to get along with each other. One must also have a strong constitution mentally because there is a scene where the James character bonds with a young boy who calls himself “Beckham” but tragically James backs off from getting closer to any of the other local children after what he sees during one of his required patrols for his military duties. What I like the most about this collection is the blend of club and trance music vibes on this collection. For instance, the character of Yoda in the first episode is written in a way to where he is able to encourage himself and the troops accompanying him to see victory even when circumstances seem otherwise. This is even with both Yoda and the other characters encountering circumstances that were intentionally used with the intent of underming. Dramatically, I know all too well that it is too popular for some people to attack and/or demean others based on who they plan to vote for in the upcoming 2016 Presidential elections. In chapter three, Dweck writes about the Truth in regards to ability and accomplishment (starts on page 55), an honest letter from a 49 year old who belonged to the Gifted Child Society when they were younger (which for me was a gentle warning to always believe in myself regardless of my age, background, and how I see it reflected in my external world), Dweck gives examples of how the growth mindset applies if someone is struggling with whether or not they belong in a certain place (when it comes to achievement which is on page 77), and the example of the former controversial company Enron (starts on page 108). The mother in the book discusses the shared spiritual journey among herself, her husband, and her kids. The mother also mentions about how she would become concerned because she obviously had great empathy for the pain the her daughter Anna went through but admitting that she would worry when Anna when mention how she wanted to return to heaven. The only catch is that there were not as many details as to the heaven that her daughter visited as I had hoped, rather it was more of an honest emotional journey that Anna’s concerned mother went through, along with her husband and the children. Please know that my review in no way is meant to minimize any suffering that the mother, the husband, and any other concerned family members went through as Anna was undergoing great pain and needing great surgery. I was only admitting that I was just expecting more details in regards to the heaven that Anna visited. (US)  Tom Jones Frank/Candid Life Journey, December 19, 2015 This review is from: Over the Top and Back - the Autobiography (Audible Audio Edition) This audiobook of Over The Top and Back-the Autobiography by Sir Tom Jones (Author), Jonathan Pryce (Narrator), Penguin Audio (Publisher) caught my attention because I was previously introduced to some of his music via a Euorpean music import purchase around 2001 and again around 2009 via a greatest hits music collection courtesy of an Orlando, Florida library (near the University of Central Florida). Fortunately, I was able to procure this via my audible subscription and I’m glad to have done so because of the juicy details that he shares in his life. The beginning of the audiobook opens with Jones describing a dinner party/dinner theater performance he gave in 1983 for fans in Massachusetts. What adds a heartwarming touch is when Tom Jones touches on how he met his wife and the way he felt when they were first getting together. They met when they were teens and married young, but I find it both inspirational and gladdening that they are still married to this day. However, the character’s group of friends playfully chastise him for his innocent plot when they are reunited. The playmat and the figurines illustrate in the writing process how an author creates the friends (through the figurines) and the background (through the playmat prop) to develop the plot of the main character and the supporting characters. However, a child would also enjoy this book because of the colorful details the writing evokes around Sofia the First balancing her life’s purpose of being a princess, which I’m guessing obviously involves her running her own kingdom one day, while her parents and training instill the lessons within her as to how she is to treat the people around her, as well as the way she is expected to treat her family and friends.
